What You May Need When going on Family Vacation

Many families choose to travel by road when on a family vacation; Travelling together in a car is part of the close family experience that every family cherishes and long for every year. Preparing for this long travelling experience for the families can be a sweet challenge for parents, especially when the journey involves very young kids. The thought of how to keep them engaged and entertained all through the long journey can also be daunting.

It is no brainer to say that you need suitcases to pack the family’s clothing and needs while on vacation, The challenge is what type of suitcases do you need. Do you need a suitcase for everyone in the family or do you need to put everyone’s clothing in a common suitcase? Depending on the number in the family and the ages of the kids, you may have a common suitcase for clothing and another for other accessories. Alternatively, each kid can pack his/her accessories in his/her backpack, while you have a common suitcase for everyone. In another arrangement, you can let everyone in the family use a garment bag to pack both his/her clothing and accessories. This is one of the “sweet-bitter” choices parents have to make.

Use A Thermal Cooler Bag to Pack Enough Cold Drinks For Everyone While On The Journey

Depending on the length of the journey you might want to travel with enough cold drinks packed in a thermal cooler bag. The thermal lining of the cooler bags prevents the drinks from absorbing heat as such the drinks will remain cold for a very long time. The idea is for you not to stop to buy cold drinks each time any member of the family wants something cold to drink. Having sufficient cold drinks handy when you need them gives you enough driving time and also lets you stop only when you need to break the journey for any other thing other than just buying some cold drinks.

Make Your Kids Comfortable With Kids’ Travel Accessories

Besides having enough drinks handy for anyone who needs it during the journey, it can also be a challenge to keep the kids comfortable during a very long journey. You can keep your kids comfortable all through the journey by allowing them to use kids’ travel accessories such as travel buddies. Kids’ travel buddies are ultra soft neck pillows that allow kids to snuggle with their buddy while “visiting the land of dreams!” These buddies that are available in different animal characters are perfect for strollers, cars and any other place kids drop off to sleep.

Another way is to have them watch videos/movies on iPad while you drive. In this instance, backSTAGE pro II is very suitable. Travel Vacation Club – Pros and Cons

A travel vacation club is one in which several members combine their money and buy properties and timeshares all over, in several different vacation locations. These members all work from home, buying and selling or renting these properties as a group and making the profit from it. There are several perks about travel vacation clubs, as well as some cons. It is important to know them both before you decide to invest.

Pros

Working from home is always a perk for almost everyone, and for good reason. To invest, buy, sell, and bring home profit from the comfort of your home allows you more time (or at least closer vicinity) to your family and home comforts, and in most cases it allows you to work when you want to with as many breaks as you want.

Another bonus, and this is the one that for most people is the most convincing, is the travel and vacation options available to you when you are a member of one of these vacation travel clubs. Timeshares allow you to vacation to a home for a certain number of days or weeks a year, but you don’t have to own it all to yourself and don’t have to worry about the stress of maintaining it year-round. Vacation travel clubs also share benefits and free or reduced vacation services just for being what they are, to encourage potential buying clubs to visit their location.

Not least of the pros of becoming a member of a club like this is the money and profit you will be making. This money can go for everyday living, a little extra luxury here and there, or it can go into future commitments like college funds for children or retirement funds for you!

Cons

The cons are usually outnumbered by the pros when talking about travel vacation clubs, but there are still a few to be aware of. One is that, to some people, it is not a good thing to share ownership of properties or homes, but these people would rather own the place outright. For these people, vacation clubs such as this aren’t ideal.

Another downfall of clubs such as these is that though they usually make a large profit, there is the chance of a loss, as well. A vacation location may not be as popular this year as last, or it could be the off season when money needs to be poured into upkeep of the property but no one is paying to lease or rent it, and profits shrink.

Pro Travel Tips For First Time International Travelers

Is this your first time traveling abroad? Taking the plunge on your very first international trip can be both exciting and intimidating. As you gear up to step out of your comfort zone and explore unknown territories far away from the warmth of your home, taste new cuisines and experience new cultures, a few silly mistakes can play a spoilsport in your first international trip. Don’t let them dampen your spirit, just pack your bags and keep in mind a few tips before starting out on your 1st international trip!

Scan your passport and other important documents:

You always hope that your trip to a foreign country goes absolutely hassle-free but sometimes things go unplanned. It is for times like these that you must be well prepared. If your passport gets lost or stolen while you are vacationing, you would want to be sure that you can still make it back to your country or at least be able to prove your citizenship. Hence, it is absolutely important to make a copy of your passport-both on paper for backup and an electronic copy on Google drive or cloud for extra backup. Be sure to mail a copy to a family member or friend you trust. That way even if things take a wrong turn, you would know how to find your way back.

Travelers insurance is a must:

You don’t realize the importance of travel insurance until accident comes knocking on your door. Accidents and mishaps can happen anywhere so invest in a travel plan that has you covered while you are travelling.

Carry local money:

Not every country supports cashless transactions on all levels, so make sure you convert cash into the local currency of the country you are traveling to. Even if you are carrying credit and debit cards, always keep a few stashes of money in hand. Most public transports and local markets prefer cash over card. You wouldn’t want to miss a bus or buy a souvenir from a local market because of lack of cash.

Separate your cash:

The golden rule to keeping your cash safe is by the applying the divide and conquer strategy. Never ever keep all your credit cards and travel cash in one place. Keep some in your purse and some in a pouch in your luggage or other travel bag where you think it will be safe. Additionally, keep some of your credit cards in a separate section of your wallet and others in your luggage. That way even if you are subject to any travel catastrophe, you will have some cash to help you sail through.

Stay Healthy:

Check and ensure that you are carrying all prescription medicines with you at all times. Upon arrival, spot the nearest medical facility and pharmacy shop, and save the phone numbers immediately.

Store Embassy’s Contact Information:

Before you start your trip, it is best to save your embassy’s contact information as well as other relevant emergency numbers which you can contact in an emergency situation.

Keep these tips in mind and you’ll have a fantastic first international trip! And, don’t forget what Michael Palin had said, “Once the travel bug bites there is no known antidote, and I know that I shall be happily infected until the end of my life”.

Happy Traveling!

Using a Travel Agent – Pros & Cons

The Airlines Reporting Corporation (ARC) recently reported that there are 9,386 travel agents operating in the US alone. That’s an awful lot! But what do they offer the consumer that the consumer cannot do on their own? Also, as the internet becomes an increasingly more powerful tool in the world of travel, and everything is at the touch of a finger, are the days of the modern day travel agent limited? Let’s take a look

The Pros

Local Knowledge: You can’t underestimate the power of local knowledge! For any HSBC customers, you might have heard that phrase before; however there is some truth in it. Good travel agents will know your travel destination like the back of their hand. They will know the intricacies of putting a successful tour together that works in your chosen destination. For example: when putting together a tour in Peru I consider how altitude will affect the client and the route of the tour, or how seasonal weather could affect cancellations of afternoon flights. These small details are hard to know, if you are travelling independently.

Special Rates on your Hotels: Your travel agent will have special rates on most hotels in your chosen destination. Hotels operate different pricing structures based on who you are, and they typically break them down into three categories: rack, corporate and travel agency rates. Rack rates are what independent travellers pay, and are the full rate. Travel agents have pre-agreed confidential tariffs with the hotel, and are often in excess of 40-50% discount, over rack rates. So think about it! If a travel agent makes a saving of $50 per night on a 10 days vacation, that represents a saving of $500. In many cases the saving is actually quite a lot more! Of course special rates also apply to tours, flights, transfers, food and transport.

Local Representation: In most cases you travel agent will have a local operator who you can call on should you need them. Perhaps assistance with changing your tour, complaining about something you are not happy with or perhaps assistance with translation in a medical emergency.

Convenience: Simply many people do not have the time to plan a complex vacation. Travel agents are there to offer a professional service, so that you don’t have to worry.

The Cons

Stability: Just like all areas of business, every now and then companies run out of cash, and travel agencies are no exception. Travel agents handle large amounts of your cash every day, and only careful management of your funds mean that travel agents keep their business afloat. Be sure that you travel agent is in good working order, before you hand over your hard earned cash.

Limited Flexibility: Only very good travel agents can customize a tour to meet your specific requirements. Many high street travel agents only have standard packages in their arsenal, and may try and persuade you to take something they want you to have, rather than what you want. Only true destination specialists can get you what you want.

Hidden Fees / Or Not Telling the Whole Truth: As a travel agent, for me, it is vitally important to be open and honest about the complete package that I am selling. For example: what flights are included, what are level of accommodations, what meals are included, what entrance fees are included, and the list goes on and on. Often, when a client says to me, “I like you, and I like the tour you have put together, but you know I can buy the same thing a lot cheaper from another agent..”, I ask them to send me the quotation for comparison. Often, it is clear that the cheaper quote has not included internal flights, or is not specifying which 4 star hotel the clients are staying in, or they consider meals as optional extras. Unfortunately, this is common practice for many travel agents who are trying to show rock bottom prices. Only once you have paid your deposit does the whole truth become clear. Read you quotation properly, understand it, and ask as many questions as you see fit.

There are many more pros and cons to consider when making your choice, but at the end of the day it is really up to the consumer to decide what suits them best.

Go with quality over price (within reason), make the agent work for you and make sure that they are in good financial standing. With these things in mind, you really shouldn’t have any worries!
